While filming ‘Home Alone 2,’ Joe Pesci suffered from’serious burns.’
While filming “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” Joe Pesci suffered “serious burns” to his head. While he used a body double for the “real heavy stunts” when reprising his role as criminal Harry in the 1992 sequel, the 79-year-old star was still injured as a result of the pranks played on his character, including having his hat set on fire by Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister.
“I received serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire, in addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains associated with that particular type of physical humour. I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen perform the more difficult stunts “Joe stated.
Joe purposefully avoided Macaulay, now 42, on the set of the “Home Alone” films in order to “preserve the integrity” of their on-screen relationship. “I remember Macaulay as being a really sweet kid and, even at his age, very professional,” he told People magazine.
“I purposefully limited my interactions with him in order to maintain the dynamic between his character, Kevin, and my character, Harry. [I didn’t] want it to appear on the screen that we were friendly in any way. I wanted to preserve the adversarial relationship’s integrity.”
The “Goodfellas” star believes he will not reprise his role as Harry in the future because no new film can recreate the “innocence” of the originals. He stated, “While you should never say never, I believe it would be difficult to replicate not only the originals’ success but also their overall innocence. It’s a different era now; attitudes and priorities have shifted over the last 30 years.”
